Brassington Insurance Professional Indemnity Seminars
Having entered the Professional Indemnity market for Brokers in January this year, Brassington Insurance in conjunction with their Insurer CGPA Europe hosted two Professional Indemnity, Compliance and Risk Management seminars in Dublin and Limerick in October.
The Dublin event was held in The Marker Hotel, Grand Canal Square while the Limerick event took place in The Savoy Hotel. Numbers and feedback were excellent and participants noted that they had learned some valuable lessons. The objective of the seminars was to highlight to the Broker market, the key elements of a PI policy to be aware of, aswell as the dangers and pitfalls which many Brokers fall into.
The event was formally opened by Paul Carty, MD Brassington Insurance, who brought the audience back to 1984 and one of the first articles he wrote in the Irish Broker magazine on the verysubject of Professional Indemnity. The audience were then introduced to Eric Evian, Business Development Manager for CGPA Europe (Insurer for the Brassington Insurance Professional Indemnity Scheme). Eric took the opportunity to thank those who are on cover with Brassington Insurance for their support and also gave some key information on CGPA Europe and their commitment in the long term to the Irish Market and the strong balance sheet position and solvency position of the firm.
Paul Dillon, Head of Commercial, Brassington Insurance, then took to the stage and gave an informative presentation from an underwriters view on Broker PI, mentioning particular areas to watch out for on your policy for example: Limits of Indemnity, different types of excesses and how they work etc. Paul also warned the audience on issues with aggregate limits, per claimant excesses and allowing your policy to lapse resulting in a gap in cover.
The final speaker, very well known to the industry was Evelyn Hanrahan, Compliance Governance and Training who addressed the audience on Compliance and Risk Management paying particular attention to elements of the Consumer Protection Code and the recruitment process in Broker firms paying attention to the Fitness and Probity Standards.
“Celine and I would like you to accept our thanks and pass same on to your colleagues for the very informative lecture yesterday evening. It was most interesting and we will be taking on board a number of the points raised at it”
